Teresa Mateo Miranda ascended into Heaven on July 1, 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
Teresa was born to Elena Buitizon and Victor Mateo in Tondo, Manila, Philippines on September 27, 1960. She was raised alongside her siblings, Cesar and Aurea † .
Teresa attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and Far Eastern University High School. She majored in Nursing at University at Santo Tomas. She later transferred to Adamson University where she pursued Business Management.
It was there that she met Omar Miranda, whom she married on April 6, 1980. In 1985, they immigrated to the U.S., moving between Northern and Southern California before planting their roots in Daly City in 1987. In 1988, Teresa went back to school and became a Certified Nurse Assistant the following year. She worked at Sequoia Senior Living in San Francisco for 36 years, where she was adored by colleagues, residents, and their respective families. In addition to being a full-time CNA, Teresa and Omar built their own restaurant, The Wedge, from the ground up in 1999.
Despite Teresa and Omar’s separation, they remained committed to their daughters, Melodie Mae, Marla † and Margaret Rose. In 2006, Teresa met Aziz Chakib, a coworker at Sequoia. Over the next year, their friendship evolved into courtship and they were married according to Muslim ruling in 2007.
In lieu of personal hobbies, Teresa was happiest when caring for her family. It would be an understatement to say that she dedicated each waking moment to brightening the lives of her loved ones – whether that meant frequently sending cross-country care packages to her daughters or stopping by her extended family’s home with their favorite food in hand.
What ultimately brought Teresa the most joy was being “Mimi” to her grandson, Alexander Elliot. If she wasn’t cuddling with Alex, she could be found FaceTiming him throughout the day or anticipating his every single need.
She is survived by her grandson, Alex, daughters, Melodie and Margaret, son-in-law, Dave, long-time partner, Aziz, ex-husband, Omar, brother, Cesar, sisters-in-law, Apple and Grace, and nieces, Nikki and Mylene.
We find solace that Teresa is finally reunited with her daughter, Marla † .
Thank you for joining us as we celebrate the very special life of our Mommy.
Love, Mae, Marla & Meg
